It seems that document.write and document.writeln are essentially the same with the exception of document.writeln adding a linefeed after writing each argument. Both methods can take multiple arguements, each separated by a comma. With the document.writeln method each one will be on a new line.
NOTE: I used both document.location and document.URL as document.location is deprecated code.

According to "The JavaScript Bible, 3rd Edition, by Danny Goodman" the term may disappear from the JavaScript vocabulary (or at least from Netscape's object model). The book suggests using document.URL instead.

The document.URL method is supported from Netscape Navigator 3.0+ and InterNet Explore 4.0+.
